Once the Commission confirms that necessary standards and guidelines are ready, companies would receive either six or twelve additional months to implement the rules depending on the system category, with a backstop provision ensuring enforcement dates regardless of timeline delays.

The delay has sparked mixed reactions across the AI industry and policy communities. Tech companies generally welcomed the extension as pragmatic, arguing it provides necessary breathing room to develop compliant systems without rushing implementation.
